In 2016 the world will commemorate 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare!

William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare, an alderman and a successful glover originally from Snitterfield, and Mary Arden, the daughter of an affluent landowning farmer. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and baptised there on 26 April 1564. He was the third child of eight and the eldest surviving son.

2. When did he die? and where?



Shakespeare died on 23 April 1616, at Stratford-upon-Avon (United Kingdom) the remains of Shakespeare were buried in the chancel of the Church of the Holy Trinity of Stratford.

3. Why is Shakespeare famous?
Shakespeare was famous because he was a playwright, poet and actor. Sometimes known as the Bard of Avon (or simply The Bard), Shakespeare is considered the most important writer in the English language and one of the most famous in world literature. Shakespeare's works have been translated into more than seventy languages and his plays still performed worldwide. Moreover, many quotations and neologisms of his works have become part of everyday use, both in English and other languages.




Time is very slow for those who wait, very fast for those who fear. Very long for those who suffer, too short for those who rejoice; but for those who love the time it is eternity
